How you use your car

Overview

How you use your car

How you use your car is described in insurance as your ‘Class of use.’ It’s important that this is accurate, as you may not be fully covered if this is incorrect.

You can choose your class of use when you set your policy up, and you can change it at any time via your Account if the way you use your car changes, for instance if you no longer commute to work.

We offer three types of class of use:

Social, domestic and pleasure (SDP): This covers you for everyday driving, such as visiting friends and family, shopping, or leisure activities. It does not cover you for commuting to work or using your car for business purposes.

Social domestic and pleasure and commuting (SDP+C): This includes everything in SDP, plus driving to and from a permanent place of work, such as an office or a factory. It does not cover you for driving to different locations for work or using your car for any work-related tasks.

Business use: This covers you for everything in SDP+C, plus driving to different locations for work or using your car for any work-related tasks, such as making sales trips, or attending meetings. This doesn’t cover using your car for commercial purposes (for further information, please see below).

We don’t offer any sort of commercial insurance. You cannot use your car for work as a delivery driver under your policy with us. This includes taxi driving, Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Just Eat, Amazon, Evri and any other hire and reward purpose.

Our policies exclude: commercial travel, any purpose in connection with the motor trade, the carriage of goods or passengers for hire or reward (eg. taxis, delivery drivers etc.), motor sport, pace making or speed testing, hill climbing, rallies, trials, competitions or endurance tests, off road events such as 4x4 events, track days and green laning.
